About
A coastal fort built by the Portuguese in the 16th century on Madh Island to guard the northern sea approach to Bombay, later contested between Portuguese, Maratha and British forces. Its weathered laterite walls sit close to the beach, offering views over the Arabian Sea and Versova coastline. The fort is now a quiet, largely unrestored heritage site popular with a handful of local visitors and photographers. It remains free and openly accessible.
