About

A 14th-century fortified city built by Ghiyath al-Din Tughluq, founder of the Tughlaq dynasty, as the capital of the Delhi Sultanate. Its massive sloping stone ramparts, once enclosing a thriving city, were reportedly abandoned within years due to water shortages after a curse by Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya, according to popular legend. The fort complex includes Tughlaq's own mausoleum, connected to the fort by a causeway. Though now largely in ruins, its scale still conveys the ambitions of Delhi Sultanate-era military architecture.
