About
The residence and later prison of Mahatma Gandhi during his final 144 days, from his arrival in New Delhi in 1948 until his assassination on these grounds on 30 January 1948. The room where he stayed and the path he walked to his final prayer meeting, marked by footsteps in stone, have been preserved as a memorial. Exhibits document his life and the Indian independence movement through photographs, letters and personal artefacts. It remains one of the most solemn heritage sites associated with Gandhi in Delhi.
