Formerly Birla House, where Mahatma Gandhi lived for the last 144 days of his life, from 9 September 1947 until his assassination in the grounds on 30 January 1948. The room where he stayed and the path he walked to his final prayer meeting, marked by footsteps cast in concrete, have been preserved as a memorial. Exhibits document his life and the Indian independence movement through photographs, letters and personal artefacts. It remains one of the most solemn heritage sites associated with Gandhi in Delhi.
