About

A tomb built between 1754 and 1774 for Safdarjung, the powerful Mughal-era governor of Awadh, by his son Shuja-ud-Daula. Often called the "last flicker of Mughal architecture," it borrows heavily from Humayun's Tomb but on a more modest scale, reflecting the empire's declining resources. The mausoleum sits within a formal charbagh garden with a marble-domed central chamber. It is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India and remains a quieter counterpart to Delhi's more famous Mughal tombs.
