About
The Government Museum in Bengaluru, established in 1866, is one of the oldest museums in India, housing archaeological finds, sculptures, coins and inscriptions spanning prehistoric to medieval periods of Karnataka's history. Its collection includes Indus Valley artefacts, Hoysala and Chalukya sculptures, and Egyptian mummies acquired in the 19th century. The red-brick building itself is a heritage structure in the Indo-Saracenic style. It sits opposite Cubbon Park in the city's cultural precinct.
