About

Commissioned in 1213 CE by Recherla Rudra, a general of Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva, this sandstone Shiva temple took roughly 40 years to build and is named after its chief sculptor, Ramappa — a rare instance of an Indian temple bearing its craftsman's name rather than its patron's or deity's.

Did you know? The temple's superstructure uses specially fired porous "floating bricks" — up to 25% lighter than water — an ancient lightweight-construction technique engineered to reduce structural load, rediscovered by modern researchers.
