Commissioned in 1213 CE by Recherla Rudra, a general of Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva, this sandstone Shiva temple took roughly 40 years to build and is named after its chief sculptor, Ramappa, a rare instance of an Indian temple bearing its craftsman's name rather than its patron's or deity's.
Did you know? The temple's superstructure uses specially fired porous "floating bricks", up to 25% lighter than water, an ancient lightweight-construction technique engineered to reduce structural load, rediscovered by modern researchers.
