A carefully maintained Commonwealth War Cemetery holding the graves of over 1,000 soldiers killed in the 1944 Battle of Kohima, a turning point of World War II in Asia, buried side by side regardless of rank or nationality.

Did you know? The 1944 Battle of Kohima, fought partly across the district commissioner's own tennis court, was the last major Japanese attempt to invade India, and is one of the least-known but most brutal turning points of World War II in Asia.
