About
A colourful patchwork and appliqué craft where cut-out fabric shapes — animals, birds, flowers and mythological motifs — are stitched onto a base cloth, historically used to make ceremonial umbrellas and canopies for Puri's Jagannath Temple.
Did you know? Pipli's applique craft grew directly out of the need to make ceremonial items for the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra festival in Puri — even today, temple canopies and chariot decorations remain among the town's most important commissions.
