About
An exceptionally fine handwoven mat made from korai grass split so thin it can be woven with a silk-like texture, sometimes interwoven with actual silk or gold thread for ceremonial pieces.
Did you know? Pattamadai's finest mats use korai grass split into strands as thin as thread, woven while still underwater to keep the fibre pliable — the softest examples can be folded up small enough to fit inside a matchbox.
