The Capitol Complex, designed by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier as the administrative heart of Chandigarh — India's first planned post-independence city — comprises the High Court, Secretariat, and Legislative Assembly, along with monuments including the Open Hand. It is one of 17 sites across seven countries inscribed together as "The Architectural Work of Le Corbusier, an Outstanding Contribution to the Modern Movement."
Did you know? The Open Hand Monument, Le Corbusier's personal emblem for the complex, rotates in the wind and was intended by him as a symbol of "open to give, open to receive" — a gesture of peace and reconciliation.
